Troop # 30

Welcome to Troop 30!

Welcome to Troop 30! We are an active, Scout-led organization chartered by St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Austin, Texas. Our mission is simple: to develop character, foster citizenship, and promote personal fitness in every Scout — not through lectures, but through real-life experience outdoors, where teamwork, leadership, and self-reliance are lived, not just taught. Learn more about who we are and what we stand for.

Who We Are

Troop 30 has been serving the greater Austin community for over 50 years. We are a mid-sized troop of 60–80 active Scouts organized into mixed-age patrols, with a dedicated patrol for new Arrow of Light (AOL) crossovers and a Senior patrol for our most experienced Scouts. This structure puts Scouts of different experience levels together, creating natural mentorship and stronger bonds across the troop.

We are a Scout-led troop — meaning our Junior Leaders plan meetings, organize campouts, and run the program. Adult leaders provide mentorship, safety, and support, but the Scouts are in charge of the day-to-day. This is how young men grow into leaders.

Our Weekly Meetings

Troop 30 meets every Monday evening, 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 1500 Capitol of Texas Highway North (Loop 360), Austin, TX 78746. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. — Scouts are encouraged to arrive early for advancement sign-offs, games, and fellowship before the meeting begins.

Each meeting opens with a flag ceremony and the Scout Oath and Law, followed by activities and skills led by Junior Leaders. The meeting closes with a flag retirement and the Scoutmaster's Minute.

Monthly Campouts

Camping is the cornerstone of Scouting, and Troop 30 camps every month of the school year. From hiking and rock climbing at Enchanted Rock to canoeing, fishing, and backpacking across Texas, our monthly campouts are where Scouts build real skills and lasting friendships. Each campout is planned and led by the Scouts themselves through the Patrol Leaders' Council (PLC).

For our older Scouts, Troop 30 organizes annual High Adventure trips — past destinations have included Philmont Scout Ranch, Florida Sea Base, Northern Tier, and MOHAB Base Camp.

Advancement

Scouts advance at their own pace through the ranks of Scout, Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, Life, and Eagle. Advancement is not a race — it is about acquiring real skills, growing as a leader, and living by the values of the Scout Oath and Law. Troop 30 runs a Path to First Class program each spring to help new Scouts reach their first three ranks with the guidance of Troop Guides and adult leaders.

For Scouts aiming for Eagle rank, Troop 30 provides dedicated Eagle coaching once a Scout reaches Life rank.

Service & Community

Service to others is a cornerstone of the Scouting program. From community service projects to Eagle Scout service projects that leave a lasting mark on our neighborhoods, Troop 30 Scouts learn that leadership means lifting others up. Every Scout working toward Star, Life, and Eagle rank is required to complete service hours — and we take that responsibility seriously.

Our Parent Community

Troop 30 has a strong, engaged parent community. Parents volunteer as merit badge counselors, campout chaperones, Board of Review members, and committee members. We believe that if everyone does a little, a lot gets done — and that involvement makes Troop 30 the community it is. New families are paired with an experienced Parent Buddy to help them find their footing in their first months.
