Welcome to Troop 30!

We are an active, Scout-led and adult-engaged organization that focuses on the life skills and character development of all our Scouts. With special attention to successfully transitioning new Scouts into the Troop, each member enjoys finding his own path and pace under the guidance of a supportive adult leadership team. Our unique Eagle Enrichment program is also available to those who wish to earn the highest level in Scouting. We equally provide opportunities for parents and families to become knowledgeable of the Scouting program and involved in our Troop in a variety of ways. We purposefully designed age-based patrols so each Scout can connect with friends and learn from peers while providing Troop-wide learning and experiences so all Scouts can connect as one community. We proudly welcome new Scouts and their families and look forward to expanding our community of service-minded people by encouraging growing young men achieve their true potential.

New Scout Transition
Crossing over from Cub Scouts to Boys Scouts is a big achievement in every Scout’s journey. As one quickly learns, there are material differences between the two programs, and Troop 30 Scouts and Adult Leaders are prepared to ensure each new Scout has a great transition.

Troop 30 also welcomes those boys who have never had a scouting experience before or are returning to the program. We provide the necessary guidance to educate and advance all boys who wish to have a life-defining experience in leadership, friendship, and skill-building.

For our parents, we also have a unique program to educate on all the new language, programs and opportunities for both Scouts and their families. Learn more at our Prospective Scouts page.

Engaging Troop Meetings
Troop 30 meets weekly on Monday evenings (7:00pm - 8:00pm) at St. Michael's Church. These meetings highlight different team building, training and inspirational experiences along with rank advancement, skill activities, and monthly campout planning. Troop Meetings also provide a time for older Scouts to teach younger ranks skills using the EDGE method. This helps advance younger Scouts in their knowledge while giving older Scouts the opportunity to build their own leadership style and approach.

Exciting Camping Opportunities
Troop 30 offers a wide variety of camping experiences for Scouts and families of any experience level. Each month the Troop works together to plan its unique campouts from backpacking at Enchanted Rock, enjoying the waterways at The Narrows, waking up on Westlake Beach, challenging one another at an overnight game lock-in or even exploring downtown Austin. Activities can include hiking, canoeing, archery, boating, shooting, fishing and more outdoor adventures that create lasting memories. No Scout should be nervous if they have limited camping experience. All Troop 30 Scouts and leaders are ready to help demonstrate how to pitch one’s own tent and cook meals on the Troop’s stoves.

During the summer, Troop 30 organizes a wonderful opportunity at Lost Pines Scout Camp for Scouts to easily earn a great number of Merit Badges as well as rank advancement through the “Eagle Quest” courses. For older Scouts, Troop 30 organizes one or two “High Adventure camps” each year which includes backpacking at Philmont Scout Ranch, sailing and SCUBA Diving at Florida Sea Base, canoeing at Northern Tier, and packrafting at MOHAB Base Camp.

Our Advancement Programs
With our “Path to First Class” program, new Scouts can set a course to advance at a pace most suitable for their individual desires. Our mid-sized Troop also allows for every Scout to choose which leadership role meets their needs and find new ways to demonstrate independence and responsibility. Troop 30 also strongly encourages candidates to go to the National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) to further develop and refine their leadership abilities.

For those interested in achieving Eagle or even the coveted Palm recognitions, Troop 30 has an engaging enrichment program that coaches each Scout to complete their Eagle Project and successfully prepare for the final Board of Review.

Giving Back Through Community Service
Troop 30 has strong ties to our community which is another important cornerstone of our program. From our regular work with Mobile Loaves and Fishes to the Troop’s involvement with regular Eagle projects throughout the year, the Scouts are able to give back on a regular basis to the underserved areas throughout Central Texas.

Communication is Key
Troop 30 centralizes all its communication on one system making it easier for Scouts and families to track progress and keep updated on all Troop events and activities. We guide Scouts to learn effective ways to communicate on email, navigate their rank status and accomplishments on TroopMaster, as well as provide countless opportunities to present in front of others to build their verbal communication.

Our Parent Volunteers
We believe that if everyone does a little, a lot will get done. We are proud of our engaged parents who help all our Scouts achieve their goals. Parents can participate at campouts, teach skills at Troop meetings, become Merit Badge Counselors that leverage their personal or professional interest and even participate on Board of Reviews (advancing Scouts to the next rank). Our Adult Leaders go the extra mile to help guide the Scout Leaders. Together, all the parents enjoy seeing these young men grow and develop while having a lot of fun along the way.

Want to learn more? Visit our Prospective Scouts page to understand the benefits of our mid-sized, age-based patrol organization that welcomes new Scouts from all Packs, Troop Transfers and those who are new to the overall BSA program.

Who to Contact

Posted by hschueppert on Apr 1 2024 - 3:08pm

Since there has been a change in several adult leadership positions as well as a new set of families to Troop 30, the following highlights who to contact if you have specific questions and needs. When in doubt, always check the website as the answer is usually somewhere to be found (especially contact information for Scouts and their parents). And as always, it is highly encouraged and recommended that the SCOUT is the one communicating to the adult leadership for what is needed (with the exception of payment/dues, etc.). This is a great opportunity for them to self-advocate and learn how to effectively communicate with different people (in a safe space!).

NEW SCOUTS AND PARENTS! Troop 30 will be placing an order for embroidered name tags very soon. If you are new to Troop 30, and would like one, please send an email to Heather Schueppert at heather@evolutionstrategy.com by April 8 with the exact spelling of the Scout's first name and last name initial. The Scout can choose their formal name or a chosen nickname (i.e., "Mike" vs. "Michael"). Also, if you are a new Parent to Troop 30 and have a Class A uniform and would like an embroidered name tag, please also let Heather know. For adults, we feature the first name initial and the full last name. Please note that a name tag is OPTIONAL, so it is your choice if you would like Troop 30 to order one.
